24 candidates contest for presidential post in Tunisia

Tunis, Tunisia – Bare few weeks before the deadline of nominations, 24 candidates have officially stood for the presidential election, including two women candidates. Here is the preliminary list of presidential candidates:

(20 thousand signatures).

2- Larbi Nasra, candidate of “People’s Voice” party
(supported by 10 NCA deputies)

3- Beji Caïd Essebsi, candidate of Nidaa Tounes Movement
(25 thousand signatures)

4- Habib Zammeli, independent candidate
He is a Judge

5- Ahmed Safi Said, independent candidate,
He is a writer and journalist
(17 thousand signatures).

6- Faouzi Saidi, candidate Front for Development

7- Ahmed Néjib Chebbi, candidate of Al-Joumhouri party
(24,617 signatures)

8- Mustapha Kamel Nabli, independent candidate,
former governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia
(40 thousand signatures)

9- Mustapha Ben Jaafar, candidate of Ettakatol party
(supported by 15 NCA deputies and 25 thousand signatures)

10- Hamma Hammami, candidate of the Popular Front
(supported by 11 NCA deputies)

11- Slim Riahi, President of the Free Patriotic Union
(150 thousand signatures)

12- Mohamed Hamdi, candidate of the Democratic Alliance
(supported by ten NCA deputies)

13- Noureddine Hached, independent candidate,
former ambassador and son of trade union leader Farhat Hached
(26 thousand signatures)

14- Abderrahim Zouari, candidate of the Destourian Movement
(25 thousand signatures)

15- Abderraouf Ayadi, candidate of Wafa Movement
(supported by 14 NCA deputies)

16- Ali Chourabi, independent candidate,
Judge (16 thousand signatures)

17- Mohamed Moncef Marzouki,
candidate of the Congress for the Republic (supported by 14 NCA deputies).

19- Emna Mansour Karoui, candidate of the Democratic Movement for Reform and Construction
(15,522 signatures).

20- Abdelkader Labbaoui, independent candidate,
President of the Tunisian Union of Public Service and Neutrality of the Administration

21- Kamel Morjane, candidate of “National Destourian Al-Moubadara,” party

Former President of the Bar Association Abderrazak Kilani and businessman Mohamed Frikha are expected to file their candidacy on Monday, September 22, 2014.

The filing of candidacy for the presidential poll came to an end on September 22, 2014.
