South Africa: 349 suspects arrested for sexual offences in one month in Kwazulu

The number of suspects is unbelievable.  Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni (The Provincial Commissioner)‚ revealed the shocking statistics in a statement‚ believe it or not, whilst praising the “dedicated teams of detectives (who) have been shuttling to and from the different courts throughout the province in the quest to see justice done to several victims of rape and sexual violation”.

Kidnapping‚ rape‚ assault‚ domestic violence‚ robbery and attempted murder have led to a huge number of arrests from 1 April 2015 to 30 April 2015‚ however, the members of the Family Violence‚ Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit known as SAPS have arrested a total of 349 suspects for sexual related offences in the province‚ according to SAPS official spokesman.

During the month‚ police secured convictions against 51 criminals after they were found guilty of sexual related offences in various courts. Six life sentences and at total of 412 years of imprisonment were handed down by courts during the past month.

“The sentences handed down will send a clear message to like-minded would-be offenders that the police will trace‚ arrest and successfully prosecute them‚” Ngobeni said.
