Young female Airforce Officer killed by a snake hiding in her toilet bowl

Lance Corporal Ogah Bercy, a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Personnel lost her life after she was bitten by a snake at her apartment on NAF Base, in Abuja.

Bercy was attached to Intelligence Operations at the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and lived at the air force base in Abuja where the tragic accident happened last Friday at approx. 6:10am.

A neighbour confirmed some sightings of the deadly animal in the vicinity on numerous occasions. Another officer suggested that the water reserve tank located at the back of their premises may be harbouring the snakes.

Following the sightings, the authorities tried to fumigate the premises. However, it was reported that on 9th November 2021, when the pest control carried out their work, the Lance Corporal was not available to let workers into her apartment.

Another colleague, who wished to remain anonymous said, “Since the fumigation was done recently, the snake must have entered the chamber and was looking for an escape route and saw the Late Lance Corporal Ogah’s house as the safest place because it was not fumigated.”
The beast made its way into her toilet bowl through the septic tank connected to the Waste Dislodger and bit her on Saturday, November 20. Bercy passed away at the NAF hospital Abuja, where she went for treatment after the snakebite.

A snake whisperer was said to have been called after the incident to remove the reptile from the toilet

Following the incident, the colleagues of the deceased have called on authorities of the Nigerian Air Force to fumigate all offices and living quarters in the base, as well as send out information and create awareness of safety techniques on how to manage snake’s bites.
