Arsenal was said to be interested in signing Schlupp for £5 million before the last summer transfer window opened but no concrete offer was tabled at the time. However, come January he is expected to up his bid to £10 million.

But Wenger is not the only top team interested in Schlupp. Manchester United was reportedly keen on signing the Ghana international in the off season as well before he signed a new four-year deal in June at Leicester.

United are also expected to make a move for Schlupp as Manchester United’s boss Louis van Gaal looks to replace injured left-back Luke Shaw. Although Schlupp had a brief trial at Old Trafford in 2013 when he featured twice for United’s Under 21, in a match against Liverpool Under 21 and another match against West Ham United Under 21.

After the trials just two years ago, Manchester United did not sign the Black Star player, even though the Ghanaian international could play at either full-back or centre forward.

Today, Manchester United and Arsenal are keen to secure his signature. But, both clubs are likely to fail in their pursuit of the 22-year-old, with Leicester’s boss Claudio Ranieri insisting he has no desire to sell his key players at the moment, including the Black Stars of Ghana man.

Ranieri said: “We don’t sell him, he is very happy here. It is too early to speak about it. He stays with us – nobody goes in January. Not Riyad Mahrez, not Jeffrey Schlupp, nobody. We want to achieve our goals as soon as possible. We need all our best players.”
